Originally design by MPRDG, this first floor addition resulted in the complete transformation of an original single Storey cottage in Double Bay. Care was taken to retain as much of the existing ground floor structure as possible, whilst focusing on transforming areas that would provide the most impact to the function and feel of the house. A dramatic double volume dining room in the center with a feature staircase provides a spatial connection between levels and a valuable source of natural light to all the ground floor living spaces. Interior finishes were selected to create a clean and fresh palette. Exterior finishes provide a subtle textural variation between planes and elements.

An extensive renovation provided new life to this 40-year-old home in North Bondi. The re-organization of spaces within the existing shell resulted in a home that better suits the evolving requirements of the family. Special attention was given to improving the connections between the living spaces and the existing garden and pool, resulting in a home that feels open and relaxed. This project exemplifies the significant impact that careful spatial planning, details and finishes can achieve without the need to start from scratch.

This project provided a unique opportunity to design a new house on a flat site with clients who enthusiastically embraced the use of unconventional finishes such as off-form concrete, white face- brick and breezeblocks to complement the sophisticated interiors.

The proximity of the neighboring houses required a solution that would provide the inhabitants with a strong connection to the exterior without compromising their privacy. As a result, courtyards and focal landscaping features are an integral part of the organization and orientation of the spaces.

“What we found incredibly helpful was Anna’s project management skills during the building process – this provided a relatively stress- free experience during a relatively stressful time.

For this project, the steep site with harbour views towards the street required a solution that would provide the inhabitants with a strong connection to the exterior without compromising their privacy.

Driving the design of the new house was the organisation of the spaces to create a series of ‘transparent’ living areas, balconies and courtyards that would allow the occupants to see through towards the stunning water views beyond. Complementing this outlook is a sophisticated interior palette which incorporates high-end finishes and fittings. The Vaucluse house exhibits a key design principle of Anna Antoniades Architecture; being that significant impact is created through careful attention to the relationships within and between spaces.

This project is a clear example of when significant constraints can bring unexpected joys. The narrow site, height restrictions and the desire to maximise accommodation whilst utilising existing approvals required an innovative solution that would provide the inhabitants with a relaxed and elegant home for their growing family.

Regardless of the site constraints, the main living areas feel spacious and luxurious, opening out to a light-filled rear yard and pool. Courtyards, decks and balconies are located adjacent to all the living areas and bedrooms, providing the sense of openness and space.

This project is another prime example of when the collaboration between client and architect can produce wondrous results.
Run down from years of being battered by the elements and a layout of disconnected spaces, this Watsons Bay house was in desperate need of a refurbishment.

The resultant design provides a raised entry with improved access to the upper living level. Spaces are enlarged and open with unhindered harbour views and a seamless connection to the exterior living areas. The middle bedroom level comprises four luxurious bedroom suites and a lower ground entertainment level with direct access to a magnificent pool in a lush tropical oasis.

All the rooms are finished with dramatic dark and blonde materials and an uncompromising attention to detail.
The completed house provides the inhabitants with a private resort-like lifestyle that caters for their individual needs.

“Anna’s grasp of what we wanted was immediate and we seemed to synchronise every step of the way during the design process – she understood exactly the level of subtle elegance we were after and she delivered”

An eclectic and sophisticated kaleidoscope of experiences provide an entertainer’s retreat from the urban surroundings.
Fuelled by the dream of two inspiring clients to create an industrial warehouse space that was to be designed around their particular needs, we went on an amazing journey that culminated in a unique and exciting result.

The unusual layout is particular to the clients’ brief whereby a central courtyard is surrounded by the entertainment functions, whilst the living and bedroom spaces are located on the perimeter for access to the city and harbour views.

The generous living spaces can be opened to flow seamlessly from one to the other, but can also be closed off to provide intimate, cosy areas for reflection.
With the inclusion of materials such as recycled face-brick, steel, timber and concrete, the main living spaces are rich and vibrant. The bedrooms, however, have a quieter palette providing the inhabitants a variety of experiences as they move through the spaces.

A very challenging site on a busy road provided the canvas for an inventive design solution that resulted in two generous and luxurious dwellings in North Bondi.

Our approach was to orientate the living spaces towards the narrow beach view in the south whilst screening the imposing neighbouring buildings on both sides. In addition we sought to bring in north light without compromising visual and acoustic privacy from the busy road.

The result is a contemporary and bold building on the exterior that provides the inhabitants with a sanctuary that connects them to the tranquil views of Bondi Beach and beyond.

“In my opinion, Anna’s greatest strength is how she brings the entire palette of the house together, with seamless and logical interplays between all the finishes.”

The owners of this 70m2 apartment in Vaucluse provided a brief that was both challenging and exciting. They wanted us to reconfigure the confined space to be able to enjoy the spectacular view from both the living spaces and main bedroom, as well as re-finish the interior with a modern industrial aesthetic.

The result is a compact, yet flexible open plan living room and kitchen that flow seamlessly onto a balcony. In addition, the main bedroom can be opened with sliding doors to enjoy the magnificent view, or closed for privacy, with spaces and functions overlapping to take advantage of every corner of the apartment. The fixtures and finishes are in keeping with the client’s brief whilst remaining contemporary and stylish.
